Are you what you eat?

This past weekend my family and I had a ton of fun playing in the waterpark at the Great Wolf Lodge.  One of the things that struck me while waiting in line for the “woolly mammoth slide” was the tremendous variety of body shapes.  It’s kind of hard not to notice when you are surrounded by people in shorts and bikinis.  So there are all these body shapes in the world, and they are all wonderful chemical factories.  Now if you read my last post you know I cringe at the idea of the body being seen simply as a bag of chemicals but what I am getting at here is the consideration that your body has an amazing ability to use the chemicals from the diet you give it and also can manufacture chemicals to suit a wide variety of purposes.  There is a common saying that you’ve no doubt heard countless times that goes like this: “you are what you eat”.  The idea being the better your nutrition the better the structure and function of your body will be.  Medicine uses this same idea by supplying your body with chemicals in the form of drugs that are supposed to help you work better.  What I’d like you to ask yourself is, is it really true that you are what you eat?  I know some people who eat mainly meat and chips, but the last time I saw them they looked more like a human being than a steak or a potato!

Seriously though I think you have to recognize that there is more to the picture of human health and function than what you eat.  If we look at your body like a chemical factory, it has the ability to use a tremendous range of chemicals from various types of diets.  How is this possible?  Because your body has running through it a central organizing power and intelligence!  The “power supply” to your chemical factory is your amazing nerve system.  It is your nerve system that sends electricity and signals to your stomach, liver, pancreas, intestines and all other organs to allow them to efficiently process the chemicals from your food and drink and to make sure they end up in the right places at the right time.  The chemical factory in your body cannot operate without a power supply from your brain, spinal cord and nerves.  Imagine a chemical factory receiving all sorts of deliveries but not being hooked up to the power grid?  It would be unable to run the machinery necessary to process the chemicals, so it couldn’t function.  This is the situation in your body when your power supply is limited by nerve system interference from vertebral subluxation complex (VSC).  VSC limits the power supply and co-ordination to your organs preventing you from using your food, water, vitamins and minerals to your full advantage.  You can eat the best quality organic foods, drink the purest water and take the best supplements but with an inadequate power supply from VSC there is no way your body will work to it’s potential!  In fact, VSC may be the reason you are experiencing health issues such as constipation, diarrhea, poor digestion, inflammation, low energy and delayed healing.

Chiropractic care is the one health care option specifically designed to restore your body’s power system to optimal function by correcting VSC.  When VSC is corrected through a course of gentle spinal adjustments your nerve system can begin to work properly and you can get the most out of your food, drink and supplements.  Would you rather have your chemical factory working at 100% or limited to 50% by a damaged power supply?  The answer should be obvious!  If you haven’t tried chiropractic I encourage you to see a Doctor of Chiropractic so you can experience the power of a body that is working at 100%!
